The name, Living Seed Fellowship

The 1st week of December will be our 1st anniversary of LSF. Reflecting how our church name was made, I thank God for His graceful guidance. When we were preparing the start up of ESC (English Speaking Congregation) last December, we needed a name for the new congregation.

There was an agreement on the vision for the church. It was based on the parable of the sower and the good soil (Matthew 13).

Initially, we had one idea for the church name - New Gate Fellowship. Jesus said that he is the gate for the sheep, and whoever enters through him will be saved (John 10). As San Francisco Bay area is well known for the Golden Gate bridge. we wanted to have our church be a new gate for giving the life. But some said that this name may sound more like "gating" which would give a negative impression - so, it's dropped. As the time went by, we needed a new church name desperately! One day, while driving on the high way back home, I prayed to God - God we need the church name. Give us a new name for the church. Then an idea came to my mind about "the seed" that the seed is the Word of God. Ok, I liked the name "seed", but I needed something more to describe it. I asked to myself "what is the Word of God like?" Then a bible verse occurred to me; Word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword... "(Hebrews 4) So, it's living seed! I loved the name. Living seed is the Word of God. Seed conceives a life in it and will grow to full, to a big tree where birds can come and rest (Luke 13). Indeed, the parable of the mustard seed is one of my favorite parables about the Kingdom of God. Thinking about our ESC, this young and small group of people will grow to large and mature through the living Word, and God will equip us with the Spirit to build up his Kingdom through. I liked to rush to tell about it to my husband, so I called to him and said "I got a new church name! Guess what it is!". There was no way for him to get it right. "It's Living Seed Fellowship!". He said he liked it.

When we checked whether this name has been already used out there, some organizations had the similar name but not exactly the same. I believe that this name is granted by God and he is pleased with our new church. Thank you Lord. We will glorify your name not anything else, only you. May God bless LSF and accomplish His work through our church!
